Life's a Beach

Valley of the Lost Idol

Rock Sculptures
Dolphin Point

We had not traveled south for a wave since before Xmas and now that Easter had passed and the worst of the Holiday makers have headed home , it was time to catch up with Phil Harper and seek out some wave action south of Ulladulla .

Dolphin Point is no big secret , 10 minutes drive south of Ulladulla, and just the other side of Burrill Lake , we had often surfed this break over the winter months, it picks up most swell from any direction and is normally not too crowded , but like everywhere else down here on the South Coast, its changing fast with a new land development opening up and duplication of the bridge at Burrill Lake, all meaning quicker travelling times for  wave hungry surfers. The line up was empty when we arrived at first light , so we quickly changed , grabbed our gear and ran down the track....which brought me to a complete stop as I first viewed these rock sculptures that weren't there the last time we visited , and I soon forgot about the surf as my focus was now on these beautiful little rock sculptures , that had a red glow from the rising morning sun, and spent another 10 minutes snapping pics before joining the boys in the line up.

A few more surfers soon joined us and with the out going tide it became inconsistent with one wave sets, so after grabbing a few sets early I decided to leave it to the boys, go in and snap a few pics of the sculptures and surrounds.

Dolphin Point Overview as we were leaving

I just hope these rock sculptures survive the next big seas as well as the vandals, you cannot view them from the look out and they are perched up on the rock shelf, so with any luck they will be standing guard of the break for a few more months, check them out if your down that way!

Mat Cove

We left Phil down south after breakfast, and with Paul having family duties it left just Eric and I to do a search closer to home. We didn't have to travel far, and as always there is no place like home to score waves , with mat cove , a few friendly locals and nice clean waves to finish the days surfing, veiw the video above for the days wrapup !
