Australia Day Long Weekend 2014

oz5

The last 2 months have felt like a blur to me , I have been stuck on a major work project , up to my elbows in epoxy resin and sand , so with just the odd major Public Holidays off ( Xmas, Boxing and New Years Day)  , this was the first 3 days in a row that I have off to relax and smell the roses…and go fishing, play with the Grandkids, as well as sneak in a mat surf…Woohooo!

Well I was planning on surfing early Saturday morning with Paul and Eric, but a call on Friday afternoon from my eldest son Cameron saying that he was bringing my boat back down , and was keen for a early fish on Jervis Bay , so surfing was put on the back burner, and it was fun to get out early and spend some time with two of my boys….pity the Southerly blew its arse off and we were back at the ramp by 9.30, and off course empty handed with not a fish amongst the 3 of us. Meanwhile my SCUMM brothers Paul and Eric were feasting on some tasty , low tide waves at Rocky Point..

Whilst on my return from fishing, it was Poppa duty with our eldest grandchildren, Mercedes and Zander , much to the amusement of the boys who went to call in and have a coffee, only to find me walking over to the park to shoot a few hoops and play on the swings..

Oz Day Sunday 2014

After the previous days adventures with the kids, it was good to have a late sleep in,nice breakfast and then wave  the kids off back to Shellharbour . So after packing the picnic basket with meat and cooking utensil's ,  it was down to the park opposite Cuddie Shop for our usual Oz Day BBQ with SCUMM crew Paul and Eric with wives in tow to keep everything on the straight and narrow.

Below is some video that I shot from the mornings fun

Well I finally got a surf in… with a late call from fellow mat slider Justin, we met at 5am and proceeded to drive down to old faithful ‘mat cove’ and was soon joined by Paul, who was not far behind us.

There was was nobody out..well it was still dark…but there was a nice 3ft wave peeling with a super high tide….these were SCUMM waves!

Justin tweaked one of my pics for a nice selfie.

I hadn't surfed with Justin since meeting him last year at the Prono Parasido meet at Queensland, so it was great to catch up again in our own backyard.

Justin surfs really well on a mat, trims high and surfs right off his chest, keeping his arms back and head down for maximum speed.

Paul was fairly impressed by his style, as I was, so looking forward to catching up again with the rest of the crew next time.

You know that great long distance pic I posted recently of GG storming across the face?
Well I got this from Aussie mat rider Brett Cook
Hi Australian Surf Mat Rider,
I believe this content you posted on Facebook violates my legal rights. Could you please take it down? I wanted to ask you first instead of submitting a report to Facebook.
Facebook has some information about legal rights in the Help Center:
https://www.facebook.com/help/intellectual_property
Please take off the photos that I took you do not have permission to use them.
My reply
Ah Brett lovely to hear from you! How is Michelle?
Why on earth would you not want that photo of a mat rider riding a mat in Australia, which, incidentally, was one of a sequence that was posted on PG's blog, posted here on a Facebook site for Australian Surf Mat Riders? Especially as any posts on GG are always very well received.
As it is Australia Day this weekend how about you and Michelle being a good Aussies and giving us permission to use the pic.
Of course I am happy to take it down if you would prefer that but I would like to give you the opportunity to reconsider your request in the light of the happy event this weekend?
Brett's reply
No please take it down as George Greenough and myself dont want to have any association to this webpage or anything associated with Mark Thompson.
Thanks
My reply
Oh for goodness sake. Ok I will let everybody know the story
So I am reposting this video again to highlight this ridiculous state of affairs which also sees me unable to purchase 4th Gear Flyer surf mats!

Looking to buy a good ‘rash shirt’ that is grippy enough to wear without slipping and sliding off your mat or board ?
I can highly recommend this brand and material…WEST wetsuits make this rashie from bamboo and PET plastics, great way to recycle and these rash shirts give me no grief when sliding on my mat or kneeboard in these hot summer conditions. This shirt is a few years old and still in great condition considering that I don't rinse it out and do all the right things that the label recommends….its SCUMM proof!
