Mixed Nuts
After the great day we had the other Thursday out at Gilligans with Neal and Sean , I needed a break to let my body recover for the weekends forecast of swell, waves and offshore winds. So with the wind screaming all day Friday, it was a pleasant shock to see the weather behave itself Saturday morning, with about 4ft + of solid south swell punching in on the reefs. With Neal leaving his spoon down with me for a lend, I was keen to get a few more surfs on it and was lucky enough to have old mate Eric da Bolt on the beach snapping a few pics .
Spoons or ‘displacement hulls’ are alot work to surf in the water. They have almost no flotation which is similar to my timber paipo’s and where you can rest your body on a surf mat between waves you don't have that luxury with spoons!

Kneelo Cove
After our first surf out at Mat Cove at Cudmirrah , we soon driving down Cedar Rd to one of our other favourite breaks at Kneelo Cove and was surprised to see nobody out in the water. So for about a hour we had the place to ourselves, with Paul on his kneeboard, Eric on his faithful 4GF Standard surf mat and me wobberling on the Spoon before 4 other foot boarders decided to join us in the fun.

da Bolts Big Day Out
We had some fun waves the previous Wednesday ,( its all becoming a bit of a blur as we have had so many fun waves of late ) with the newly retired da Bolt coming down for a ride at Gilligans , it was great to score some clean but fat waves to ourselves, on mats and kneeboards , till 2 other surfers paddled out to ruin the story.
too concave or not?
