Welcome to my little corner of life on the NSW South Coast of Australia....Surfing, Work and Family, and one beautiful stretch of coastline to share it in!
Is a shout used in Australia, usually in the bush, to attract attention, find missing people, or indicate one's own location. When done correctly - loudly and shrilly - a call of "cooee" can carry over a considerable distance. It is also known as a call of help, which can blend in with different natural sounds in the bush. The word "cooee" originates from the Dharuk language of the original inhabitants of the Sydney area. It means "come here", and has now become widely used in Australia
as a call over distances.
After having a couple of mid week surfs down here locally and with the swell predicted to be small and from the North,it was decided after giving Eric a call Friday afternoon, to head up towards Kiama and surrounds in hope of finding some rideable mat waves. Fellow SCUMM member Paul had netball duty ( he looks great in one of those little pleated dress’s) so that left just da Bolt and myself to slip into a few fun sliders.
First stop was at backside Gerroa but with the high tide and small swell we decided to head up to Boneyard and found a small wave breaking with just one mal rider in the water.
With the tide dropping so did the wave action , so after a few waves the other surfer went in and left just Eric and I to ourselves, till another 2 mal riders saw us having to much fun and decided to join us…time to go in and have some breakfast.
So after the coffee fix it was back down south to the land of milk and honey…..yeah right, more like the land of development and highway re directions…and they call this progress…yuk!
Thankfully Eric still lives in the 80’s and had his cassette player playing all his old favourites….so to the tunes of ‘’call me’’ by Blondie we ventured further into the bad lands.
The tide was still not low enough for Point Pathetic , so it was a quick drive around the headland and down to left called ‘’have a go Bernie's’’, which had a fun little left running across the shelf.

Eric da Bolt
time for some lunch and another look back at the point.
which by now had a fun little wave breaking just off the inside of the point…and across some nice low tide rocks and weed beds, which at least kept the hoards away from us again…but not for too long as we soon had a couple of kids in the line-up, but the low tide rocks soon had them sorted as well as a few good burnings from us old guys…mats rule!
Thanks to Tom Fish from Kneelo Nation for the new shirts and to Paul for breaking out the rubber bands and blue dye…..spread the love brother!
We also had our first 2 applications for membership with the first one from Huntington Beach…thanks Chewie your application has been accepted and we will be sending some shirts and stickers your way soon.
The second application is from old mate and new SCUMM member Rocks Manahan…who is now known as Rockhopper / mat name- Lye Lo….sorry but no change given.
Just remember we accept all forms of Monopoly money or just cut off 3 coupons off the back of your Corn Flakes box and send them in with your application….sweet!
