Bomb the Twist
May has been just pumping down here on NSW South Coast, we seem to be having
endless swells and offshore winds , so when a fellow kneelo called in for a
visit from sunny Queensland , it was easy to get him into a few good ones…
Brad Arman below at Mat Reef!
The Setup
Pumping waves
View from the inside looking out
with Brad being from the land of long right handers ( QLD) he still pulled
into a few nice left’s
but the lefts were defiantly the go!
watch the video below, recorded with my Handy Cam GoPro
The Bommie can be such a fun wave, with a nice steep takeoff giving you
plenty of speed to push thru the middle ‘flat section ‘ then on towards the
sucky shore dump on the inside reef. Paul and I lucked out with just a handful
of boardriders to contend with, then it was just down to us 2 on mats and a one
friendly local mal rider named ‘Butto’
Smash It Up - Mix 02/05/15 - The Drop Bears
The Latest mix of Smash it up. Pete has been a bit coughy in the last couple of weeks, so, coming into our single launch next Saturday 9th May at The Espy, we are rushing to finish the single, but it's almost there, some great work from Gavin, Glen and Mat on the recording. We hope you enjoy! Play it loud!

First time trying a hand mounted camera, I went out on a mat initially, then after one wave I came in and swapped for a kneeboard as the waves were cracking and racing down the line.
Apart from looking like I am madly waving my arms around, the hand mount does give you a different view to what its like to surf a kneeboard, rather than a fixed mount on a board or mounted to a helmet can give.
A beautiful morning and I was the first one in the water, unfortunately I was soon joined by another dozen odd surfers, but there was still plenty to share around and I was happy with the vision I captured.
After the mornings surf on boards and a quick coffee and bite to eat, it was off to another location away from the crowds , and a chance ride my mat and hand plane.
The red board is a cruiser. It will go fast and catches waves unreal, but hard to get in the rail. I need to keep a lot of wt/ pressure on the tail A unique feel and lots of fun More like riding a "Mal" kneeboard Looks like you have been scoring some waves Wayno
My reply….
same as what I find with my one, brilliant to ride on large 3/4 face walls such as Green Island and Learners, but lacks the turning ability that a modern 3-5 finner will give. I have been riding everything of late and enjoy the difference in all of them, but when I want to surf rail to rail with speed I pick up the Drift, when happy to cruise and draw my turns out, its the bonzer, and your right, I call it my Malibu Kneeboard!
