Well its been 12 months to the day since Eric finally gave into his battle with melanoma cancer. I still think about him every time we go for a surf , especially if its down at ' Mat Cove' where we spread his ashes !

We were going to have a memorial lunch today with Eric's family , but its all being a bit to much for Faye , and it was decided to put it back for another time , when she was feeling better. Eric's daughter Julie has sent me this video that her husband Jason had put together from the paddle out and memorial lunch. I had actually forgotten being interviewed that day, so it was a surprised to see and hear the final edit that Jason had done , such a professional production and brought many tears to my eyes just viewing it , many thanks to Jason and his business Cole Studios for passing this link and pictures onto me.
Farewell Mat Man
Last year I turned 55 and Eric invited me down to Narooma , it was one of his favorite towns to visit and holiday and only a couple of hours drive south . He was on his last legs by then , but he wanted to share with me some of his surf breaks such as Dalmeny boat ramp and surrounding breaks, as well as Mystery Bay , so he had Luke drives us around before heading back to Narooma for some pizza, which he bought for me as a final birthday present. There was a husband and wife band playing and we sat there in the sun eating and watching, shared plenty of tears and said our goodbyes, before heading back to Dalmeny to lay down next to the river mouth and listen to the Ocean.
Two weeks , Monday afternoon after work, I drove up to Berry to tucked him into his bed at palliative care, and said my final goodbye....he passed away on the Friday, just short of his 64th birthday.
