Welcome to my little corner of life on the NSW South Coast of Australia....Surfing, Work and Family, and one beautiful stretch of coastline to share it in!
Below is some frame grabs, pictures and video from last Saturdays fun slide session out at Golf Course Reef…..It was good to catch up with a old kneeboard mate turned mat rider, Phil Harper for a slide or two at his local down at Ulladulla. Myself and my fellow SCUMM brothers arrived down there fairly early after checking a few other breaks, so with Paul and da Bolt deciding to ride their kneeboards , I was soon joined by Phil on his MT5 for a really fun session….
After Saturdays dismal swell display, the forecast was for a slight increase for the
Sunday…….Happy Mothers Day!!
My mother lives in Perth and my wife had to work and with no other SCUMM members to surf with, I was sliding solo with a day long free pass to fun!
I hit Black Rabbitt first up in the morning, nobody out and that little bank was still reeling off, so grabbed the MT5 and took off as quick as my legs could carry me, not solo for too long and soon had a dozen hungry footboarders around me and one token kneeboarder….time to get out and look elsewhere
10 minutes later and down at the other end of the beach I pulled up in the carpark at the reef and there was only just 3 guys out…hmmmm?
Time to break out a new toy, well not so new, just neglected by my increasing love of surf mats and other finless craft….but this time I have new out -boards on my feet…the UDT flipper
What a difference it is now to use this paipo, with its lack of flotation , you are always on the kick, and now with these larger fins attached to my feet, I was catching waves so easy and quickly, it really did surprise me the difference these made over the smaller swim fin that I was using 12 months ago
As you can see above there is a huge difference in size, so I can only praise these Duck Feet / UDT flippers from Voit ( below) as it has improved my mat riding heaps by simply getting onto the wave face quicker…
and when catching waves on the Paipo, its like taking off on a rocket, as you have a flat planing surface, so its instant acceleration, and helped nicely with getting into the wave early with the help of these flippers….money well spent and I can highly recommend buying these if you are serious about your mat / paipo / hand plane surfing
