Two Steps Boat Ramp
It rained last week and lots of it, with a great low sitting right off the coast pushing plenty of swell into some parts of Jervis Bay, the only problem was the wind, a howling South East wind which meant only a few spots were protected , with this little gem of of a wave enjoying some off shore fun.
Why call this Two Steps ? Well it breaks extremely close to the shoreline, over a fairly flat rock shelf , bar for the truck load of rocks, right where it starts to bowl and spin, and then down to the safety of a sandy beach, which is then followed by a stride of pride walk back round the point, and do it all over again…..and because the take off is so close, you only need to take two steps and right right in the zone.
Eric da Bolt made the drive down for a surf and take some pictures, and even though I offered a lend of my kneeboard , he insisted that he needed to ride his surf mat…..”I am Mat Man” could be heard from the water, as he hurled shoulder first into those rocks that I mention before, cutting his hands and tearing a nice hole in his new wet suit!
But he did finally get a screamer, that took him all the way down to the beach, with the peanut gallery roaring with laughter, as all you could hear was da Bolts hooting and laughter as he was kicking back out…..Mat Man Returns?

Track was closed both days,,,we went by boat,,I didn't go the first day,,,,it was suppose to have been pretty good...yesterday it was ok,,,the swell direction had changed and the high was a small one so never really hit the bank as good as it should have,,,but there was still some fun ones...

The boys had an epic adventure,,,first day they rowed over in my little tinny and nearly got washed out to see in the howling wind....they had to pull the boat up onto the break wall, because they couldn't row against the wind to get tot eh beach in the river....,,the seats came out of their tracks,,Shaun smashed his shin and it swelled like a balloon,...,they put holes in the boat.. water pissing in...then they had to row back, water pissing in through the holes, shaun trying to fill 11 holes with 10 fingers,,,, and were blown about 300 meters towards the entrance before they made land fall and had to walk the boat back up to the ramp.......nothing like treating your NZ guests to a little south coast adventure.....funny story when they tell it,,,
so we filled the holes with wax,,,threw a borrowed motor on the back and cruised over yesterday.....don't know what all the fuss was about....

love the 2 step photos! looks like it would have been such a fun time! We are hoping this anticipated hurricane swell will light up a few places in OC that rarely break and offer up some novelty surfs!
ReplyDeleteand the dune rats always look like they are having a great time.
The photo of you and me surfing and holding our arms in almost the same position...looks like we are either zombies trying to crochet a blanket OR we are trying to hypnotize the ocean into letting us do as we please, i'm trying to figure it out.
awesome photos of mark and you at wrecky
love it waka!
Zombie Surfers! love it Tommy, you will have to come back to play again mate, hoping to get Wayno and family out there for a paddle. Two Steps is such a fun little wave, when the swells use to really pump back in the early 90's, this place could be 4ft and screaming down to the beach, this use to be Camerons fav wave to surf when he was younger, and still mine if it gets big enough. Slats took some great pics back in a Day, and as you can see, still pretty good nowdays, need to get him back in the water when things warm up.
