Surf Mat Adventures continue…Pic by Paul Newman.
Friday on my Mind
Winter has arrived here on the South Coast…..plenty of swell and offshore winds, and with the school kids back at school , all major public holidays over and dusted, life was slowly returning to its quiet, empty surfing paradise that it is.I caught up with Eric and Paul last Friday afternoon for a few clean fun waves at Mat Cove, such a friendly vibe in the water, no hassling for waves, just sharing a few with the locals, cracking jokes and sharing big smiles…Stoked to be alive!

Sunday at Red Cliff
The swell jumped again over night, from a fun 4 foot to a double overhead pumping mass of swell. It had a real acute angle form the south, with some breaks being 10ft plus and just down the beach being nearly dead flat with just knee slappers breaking. The wind was perfect, howling offshore which increased as the day progressed to near gale force, but we made the most of it at Red Cliff , great 6ft plus waves and a minimal crowd . This is when surf mats excel and truly come to life, big clean lines to run, taping the speed line and hitting warp speed…not mention plenty of hoots and smiles!

Meet Steve
and we thought we were the only Mat Riders in the Village….Steve lives in Ulladulla and has been riding mats for the past 2 years, as well as fibreglass boards. Phil Harper and the rest of us has never bumped into him during a regular travels south till yesterday when a chance encounter on the beach led to his introduction to the SCUMM fraternity !
Welcome aboard mate and hope to slide with you in the future!
