Postcard from Hawaii

Da Bolt visits Waikiki….

hawaii

How do you spell Hawaii ?….’Freaking Awesome’

After a boring, uncomfortable 9.5 hours arrived to find Waikiki Main Beach with a nice two foot wave.

The North Shore is flat.

Grabbed the Vespa and into it.

Some guy spotted me and said ‘do i wanna swap for his longboard, as he rides a Krypt MT5 back in the USA?”

No prob’s bra = cowabunga!

AFTER THAT A BIG TICK ON THE BUCKET LIST

I have just walked from Waikiki to top of Diamond Head – so many tourist !!

da Bolt down here on the South Coast.

Well its been near flat here for the past few weeks bar the odd one day with some decent swell and i have surfed some of the smallest waves with my mat down on the local reef, still heaps of fun but would kill for a wave over 3ft….the beach combing keeps me occupied at least

Broken Shells

shell3

After another week of smallish surf and rogue winds, it was wishful thinking on our part that there would be some reasonable , fun surf to be had on the weekend. So with the da Bolt flying out to Hawaii on Sunday night, he was keen to get a pre-mat surf in our lovely ‘calm’ waters before tackling the challenging waves of the north shore……..yeah right, Waikiki here he comes!

Well to say the surf was small would be a understatement, but in keeping to our code of ‘its always overhead on a mat’ we went out on the reef and believe it or not, had a blast of a time trimming those little waves across the reef, much to the amusement of the local body board crew who were at the lookout cheering our every wave….lol

Overall we made the most of what was on hand….2 fun surfs, a nice breakfast and coffee at the local Cuddie shop and I collected some nice shells for the grandkids, what more could you ask for?…….

To quote Amanda Taylor

‘JT and a few of the guys were tearing in up this weekend on "alternative" crafts: JT was on his mat, Tom Fish was on his frankenboard- is a paipo style board he made himself, and Carl E was on JT's WAVA57, it is a old school kick board for swimming, but makes an awesome hand plane’

‘I'm telling you... The cove boys turned into teenagers, laughing, giggling and acting like silly boys. It was so much fun to watch!’

Better be careful…to much fun can lead to this

What a great idea!

Amanda Taylor sent me these couple of pictures of some modifications she has done to her RT tracker

mat-with-camera-strap[1]

Attached are two pictures of my mat, with the grommets Paul installed for me.
There are some at the front and rear of the mat.  The ones for the front are for my hand held camera, not a gopro. I wanted some way to secure it in case I took one for the team.  :)  We also had him add grommets on the rear for my leash... makes it much easier not to have to think to hang on.
